News Roundup #1

Before heading forward to current news let's catch up, here is some interesting stuff from the last week.

Obsidian and inXile was acquired by Microsoft

What this means for their games moving forward remains to be seen. Assuming Microsoft pumps them with some money, we can expect AAA RPGs from them again. inXile also stated their current projects will not be affected by the acquisition, meaning Wastleland 3 is still coming.

This also possibly means the games from both these studios will stop appearing on Steam and GOG.

Sony is using the open-source emulator PCSX on it's Playstation Classic console

Another argument for emulators I suppose. 20 games and a console that runs using a GPL emulator, really goes to show how much they cared about the console.

Activision is probably adding microtransactions to everything

Destiny 2 dlc seem to have underperformed and revenue has faltered, the breakdown can be read at Gamasutra. So it would seem all those who are happy for getting Destiny 2 free (still free, till 18th November) won't be happy for long.

ElderScrolls VI and Starfield will still be using the Creation Kit

“For Fallout 76 we have changed a lot. The game uses a new renderer, a new lighting system and a new system for the landscape generation. For Starfield even more of it changes. And for The Elder Scrolls 6, out there on the horizon even more. We like our editor. It allows us to create worlds really fast and the modders know it really well. There are some elementary ways we create our games and that will continue because that lets us be efficient and we think it works best.”

So said Todd Howard for a Gamestar interview. It just works.

Blizzard announced Diablo Immortal for mobile at Blizzcon 2018

Suffice to say, the reception of the news wasn't exactly positive. I feel like people hold the wrong opinion of Blizzard, so to restate that point here is a video I found explaining why you shilling the company is a bad idea.

And finally, Square Enix will focus on games as a service moving forward, Hajime Tabata left the company and FFXV will get one final dlc before being abandoned.
